Mantras vs the Bible – Part 1

June 17, 2011 2 comments

The following is an incomplete list of mantras commonly heard in churches during sermons and among self proclaiming Christians. This list deals with expressions that are not found in the Bible at all, yet they are repeated over and over again under the impression that somehow they might be true. Just because one constantly repeats a certain expression, and that expression or proverb becomes popular, that by default does not make it true. These mantras follow the same principle. These exact expressions are totally missing from within the content of the Scripture: Read more…

The second coming of Jesus Christ – Part II

Chronology

Romans 4:3 “For what saith the scripture?…”

Luke 10:26 “He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?”

All the events regarding the last days are revealed to us in the Bible. They are not revealed as a whole chunk, but rather as fragments scattered throughout the length and breadth of the Old and New Testaments. God probably intended such fragmentation in order to help us find the answers by making us read “all the counsel of God” (Act 20:27), not just a few pages.

I have shown in the first part of this essay, The second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ – Part I, that the “secret rapture” (pre-tribulation) doctrine is not scripturally sound and does not match the biblical account of this event. For a variety of reasons, this false doctrine has a great appeal to most Christian denominations. It may be so because it comforts their hearts against the fear that they might have to go through a fiery trial that will test their faith in Jesus Christ. This pre-trib doctrine has been popularized by the “Christians” in the Western hemisphere. The countries which have not suffered massive persecution for the faith throughout the course of history are mostly the English speaking territories, namely U.S.A., Canada, the British Isles, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. 1Cor 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
1Cor 11:4 Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. 1Cor 11:5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
1Cor 11:6 For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
1Cor 11:7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
1Cor 11:8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
1Cor 11:9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 1Cor 11:10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
1Cor 11:11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
1Cor 11:12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.
1Cor 11:13 Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
1Cor 11:14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
1Cor 11:15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
1Cor 11:16 But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God. Read more…

What is God’s name?

March 4, 2011 Leave a comment

Throughout the whole Bible, God identifies himself by many different names. Whether in the Old or the New Testament, God is represented by names that commend his attributes. Here is a list with some of the verses I found where God shows us his name or names. It is important to understand the context of each verse, chapter, book, or the entire Scripture when these names are given, and how the verses, containing the name or names, relate to the rest of the Scripture. Also, look at the grammar expressed in the verse; misunderstanding simple English grammar can lead to false doctrines and heresies. Read more…

Popular expressions

Here is a list with some expressions, or proverbs, that are in use today in the modern English language, and which are also found in the Bible. I believe they originated from the Bible during a time when people used to care more about the Word of God and actually had the interest to pick it up and read it.2

“Drop of a bucket:”

Isaiah 40:15 Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

“Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind:”

Hosea 8:7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk: the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up. Read more…

The pre-tribulation mantra

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

2 Timothy 4:2-3 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

These “latter times” are clearly made manifest before our very eyes by the lack of knowledge and trust in the word of God, the Bible. There is a growing number of self-proclaiming Christians who slowly, but surely, deny the simple biblical truths made evident by the Bible across the centuries, and cleave unto made up doctrines and inventions intended to deceive.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Read more…

Music: Asa B. Everett

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:” (1 Peter 2:21)

Sweetly, Lord, have we heard Thee calling,
Come, follow Me!
And we see where Thy footprints falling
Lead us to Thee.

Footprints of Jesus,
That make the pathway glow;
We will follow the steps of Jesus
Where’er they go. Read more…
